Looking for a bass guitarist for your next project? Have a gig coming up but your bass player is unavailable? I'm here to help!

Experience

Firstly, I've spent the last 10 years as the bassist for The Absolute Stone Roses and their sister show The Madchester Experience. Starting off in back rooms of quiet venues to headline slots at some of the best tribute festivals the UK has to offer - I've played many different stages and to a wide range of audiences in my time. I've always maintained the approach that regardless of whether a show is a high capacity sell out or a small intimate affair, those in attendance deserve a top quality performance. I settle for nothing less.

I've had to learn songs at short notice and perform to large crowds with little rehearsal - to be honest, I love the challenge! My approach is not one of 'lets learn the root notes and that'll be fine...', but one of understanding my parts, using techniques in keeping with style and genre, and appreciating where in the soundscape my bass needs to be in relation to other instruments. This is what elevates me above the rest, and what has got me to where I am today. Big-headed I know, but being confident in my abilities is vital in the world of session musicianship.

With an extensive repertoire of songs under my belt - particularly in the indie and rock genre - I enthusiastically welcome opportunities to broaden my horizons and play new styles. With musical tastes ranging from funk to electro-swing, from metal to jazz, there is very little music that I'm not drawn to in some way or another!

Professional equipment and travel

Travel-wise, 'I'm fortunate to live in the Midlands. I've traveled for shows for years, this is nothing new to me. I'd be happy to travel to anywhere within reason.

Over the years I've invested in some nifty professional quality equipment. My weapons of choice are the Jack Casady Epiphone and my trusty 5 string Vintage Modified 70's Squier Jazz bass - the latter taking pride of place on my right calf as a lasting testament to it's quality and sentimentality... but I digress.

I use a Zoom B6 multi-effects pedal,  running through a 4x10 Fender Rumble cab and head.

I have a simple wireless set up between my multi-effects pedal and my guitar, and exclusively use fender guitar cables between my cab and pedal.

Vocally I use the standard Shure SM58 - it's perfect for backing vocals and built to last!

All equipment is subject to yearly PAT testing and visual inspection prior to every use - the last thing I need at a show is for something to go wrong! I also bring with me the standard spares and means for repairs - my trusty electrical tape and multi-tool will always accompany me!

Lastly, I dress to impress... meaning if you need me to wear particular clothing in keeping with the style you are hoping to achieve, I will always take my appearance seriously. No good wearing a three-piece suit if I'm standing in for an Oasis tribute!

Repertoire

I love learning new music.- there;s no two ways about it. I love the challenge of learning/deconstructing music and playing songs I've never played before. To me it doesn't simply finish with me learning a bass line. I cannot stress how important it is to understand the roles and melodies of the other instruments within a piece of music - this way I can understand the purpose my bass line is fulfilling. Understanding cues given by other instrumentalists is vital and it's a job I take very seriously.

I'm open to playing any genre, and i'm proficient in all the main bass playing techniques including slap bass, finger style or using a pick.

I'm familiar with all the standard wedding band classics, and i'm commit myself to set-lists provided to me in preparation for up-coming shows.

I endeavor to make time for rehearsal sessions as and when required, however I ensure that when I do, I arrive at rehearsal fully prepared and confident in my ability to play songs requested of me. I learn at home, so I can rehearse at a rehearsal!
